Buddhism is a religion of ordinary people
......Among any society, the ordinary people make up the majority of the population, that's why Buddha often used very simple stories to inspire different levels of people, to make them understand the essence of Buddhism and understand the real meaning of life......
Nowadays, the index of the spiritual health of people hasn't increased proportionately with the development of our technology and economy. In contrary, more and more people feel tired of living in this world. How to use the wisdom of Buddha to make the modern people find the lost spiritual paradise is a big problem of each of us. Outstanding people of the society inherit the styles of Buddha and many other teachers, by using the methods liked by all people to interpret Buddhism, trying to make the general public benefit from the wisdom of life of Buddha. For example, Professor Lee Chuck Fung of the Chinese Engineering Institute wrote the book [心無罣礙] about the true touching stories from real life, to reflect the deep philosophy of life, to inspire the wisdom of people. It is greatly liked by the society; [ Heart Sutra] composed by Lam Mun Chung, performed by the Queen of Musical World, Anita Mui, shock the souls of countless people......the experienced music man of pop music Anthony Run, composed songs of Buddhism with the notes liked by most people, bringing people tranquility and happiness..........they use simple methods, explaining the essence of Buddhism to inspire the wisdom of people, to purify people and courage people to advance for better, all these are the characteristic of Buddhism of ordinary people.
Anthony Lun studies Music of Buddhism
Anthony Lun, an experience person of pop music, is not only a Buddhist, he has composed many Buddhist songs during recent years. Last year he composed music for 星雲大師 for a Buddhist concert held at HK Coliseum , it's an unforgettable experience for him. He is appointed as an adjudicator for an open competition of Buddhist song composition in HK soon. During this interview, besides talking bout his view of composing Buddhist songs, he also talked about the progress of his study of Buddhism. Who would know that the first person inspired him to study Buddhism was Anita Mui, a working partner of him for many years.
.................................
| Anthony said, he
has listened to many songs of Buddhism, among them one was composed by Lam
Man Chung, and performed by Anita Mui, that's [Heart Sutra], and he would
never forget about this song. "Ah Mui sang it very well, she
suppressed her voice, didn't add any passion, but the effect was extremely
shocking." Looking back, it's Anita Mui who inspired Anthony Run to study Buddhism. At Anthony's home, they worshipped buddhas (burn incense & etc). So since young he believed [believing in Buddhism] meant [worshipping buddhas]. After he started his music career, he found many friends around him were Buddhists. Among them, Anita Mui was most serious. She learnt Buddhism from her Ci-fu Harmapa Rinpoche. Once when they were traveling to America for concert, during the long flight, casually they started to discuss about the difference between [believing in Buddhism] and [worshipping buddhas], then Anita explained to him about the philosophy of Buddhism carefully. It not only eliminated his misunderstanding, it also aroused his interest to study Buddhism. "Thinking about it, she should be the first person who discussed Buddhism with me," Anthony said. |
..........................No matter what, religion leads people to be kind, it is a beautiful thing; after believing in Buddhism, the greatest change in Anthony Run is that he is not afraid of death anymore.
"In the past, I was afraid of death, and often thought about things related to death. Now I understand [nothing is permanent], what you owned today, you can lose it tomorrow, therefore must [live for the moment], treasure the happy feeling of having and things can be done now. I think, this is not only for the life of entertainment sector, but for people of any sector, this is the best philosophy of living in this world. In fact, any religion or belief is good inspiration for our life, as it makes us ask ourselves [What's my view about life?] If people know how to carefully do some research on the outlook on our life, then they will understand life in this world is just a short journey, and then they would definitely live happier."
